Did You Know?

1. DID YOU KNOW?: John Harding owned Belle Meade Plantation including 250 acres in West Nashville. His brother Giles lived in a house on Harpeth Ridge which was not part of the plantation. There is a slave cemetery in Percy Warner Park directly across from the entry to Harpeth Trace where slaves from the plantation were buried. 

2. DID YOU KNOW?: Harpeth Trace Estates land was at one time owned by Col. Luke Lea. (Lea donated some of his land to the city of Nashville, which became Percy Warner Park.) He had two daughters. The younger was Laura Lea Knox, (1927-2024) who lived in Tree Tops until she died a few years ago. Many of you probably remember her sitting in the front yard of her condo in her wheelchair.

3. DID YOU KNOW?: Harpeth Trace was established in 1977.  Development in the area kicked off in 1978 with the construction of the five-story Harpeth Trace Summit Highrise. Construction primarily took place between the mid-1970s and late 1980s.

4. DID YOU KNOW?: traveling up the hill from Highway 100 the temperature drops two degrees when you reach Harpeth Ridge Condominiums.

5. DID YOU KNOW?: There are 307 households in HT. 

• 161 of these are single family homes

• 146 of these are condos/townhomes

6. DID YOU KNOW?: 

We are split into 2 council districts with 2 sets of services (Urban and Metro)

We have 6 Associations serving this variety of homes:

• HTSA (we all, no matter where we are, are a part of this)

• HT Summit

• Upper Knolls/Lower Knolls

• Treetops 

• Harpeth Ridge Condos

• Wood Valley Condos (Dillon)

7. DID YOU KNOW?:  Each Association entertains issues and activities for their individual neighborhoods while the HTSA (where we all belong) does the following for every section of Harpeth Trace:

a. Streets, Bridge, and Signs

b. Gate House maintenance and security camera

c. Walls and Fences

d. Installation and maintenance of connectivity of electric, telephone, sewer, and water on all common areas

e. Common area ground care and landscaping (maintenance and beautification)

f. Street and trail lighting

g. These include equipment, materials, labor, and supervision of labor for all projects.

h. Snow removal, tree removal, and irrigation in common areas.

8. DID YOU KNOW?:  Speaking of our notoriety; Harpeth Knoll is home to Larry Weiss who wrote "Like a Rhinestone Cowboy." There are many other famous songwriters and musicians here as well as artists like Edie Maney and Stephanie Helmey and photographers like Graham Gerdeman and Liz Berger. We even have our own Super Model Emily Sandberg Gold who has five Vogue covers!
